The challenge for most, in our fast-paced, high-tech world, is to insert into our day the habits and practices that allow us to perform at our personal peak; not just for short windows of time, but all day long. One of those things that can impact us the most, on a day-to-day, hour-to-hour basis, is the dynamic activity of movement. Movement enhances our ability to perform at our peak: physically, mentally, and emotionally. The more often we move, and the more consistently, the greater impact we have on our health and happiness long-term.

Here are two dynamic ways to engage with movement in your daily life:

1. Move for optimal mind, body, & emotional intelligence

As you respond to the many demands of your day, it is easy to find yourself sitting for long periods of time.  Repetitive, sedentary routines can compromise your mind and body on many levels. By contrast, movement can assist to activate mental stamina, enhance focus, sharpen memory, speed learning and align heart and mind. This quality of presence prepares you to meet each situation with effectiveness and skill. Like Yoga and Martial Arts, The Five Tibetan Rites are infamous for their ability to stimulate and rejuvenate the body and brain. You can start with 3-5 repetitions of each movement, and add repetitions as you have time. Try them out!

2. Move your breath

Breath sustains life. Deep breathing nourishes your body, reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and strengthens key muscles. In shallow breathing, you are only taking oxygen into a small portion of your lungs. As your practice deeper breathing, the quality of your energy and your presence can improve dramatically. As you breathe with full capacity, you can experience that alchemical magic of your own “sweet spot”.

Less than a minute of deep breathing moves the respiratory system and awakens your body and mind. Practice a minute of deep, relaxed breathing to invigorate your organs, tone your muscles, and elongate your posture. Try a “7-7-7 breath.” Sit up straight in your chair, open your chest, relax your shoulders, breath deeply and slowly. Fill your lungs and abdomen to a count of 7, hold your breath to a count of 7, and exhale to a count of 7. Repeat.

Research shows that movement of mind, body, and breath are key to peak performance. The questions is: How do you align with the experience of movement as an activating force, that powers your day-to-day evolution? Movement itself can become an opportunity to actualize greater achievement, inspiration, and success, in all that you do.

Direct the movement of your day for exponential results.

Performing at your peak involves orchestrating the effective use of your time and talent. As you create and direct the dynamic movement of your day, you can sustain a pace that ensures high performance.  Rather than working harder for longer hours, it is far more effective to work in cycles of “on” time and “off” time.  Pour out your best efforts and highest creativity with laser focused action for 90 minutes. Then, reward yourself with a rejuvenating, nourishing activity for 20 minutes. This is the art of movement at its best.
